How do you boil an egg? That depends on whether you’re looking for runny yolk, jammy centres or hard boiled. Follow these simple steps to get the perfect boiled eggs every time and always use fresh, free-range eggs.

1. Bring a medium saucepan of water to the boil. Turn down to a simmer. Gently place the eggs into the water and set your timer depending on how you want your eggs done:

  • 5 minutes for soft
  • 7 minutes for medium
  • 9 minutes for medium hard
  • 11 minutes for hard

2. Immediately place the eggs into iced water to stop the cooking process, peel immediately if you want to eat the eggs hot.
