  • 1 litre water
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 whole allspice
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Orange peel, a few strips
  • 2 T dark brown sugar
  • 4 T ground coffee

Method

Ingredients
  1. Heat the water with the flavourings until boiling. Simmer for a few minutes, then stir in the coffee. Simmer for a further minute. Remove from the heat and allow to steep for about 5 minutes.
  2. Strain into small cups.

Cook's note: A fragrant coffee is traditionally made in a clay pot, but a small saucepan will also work. Serve with Mexican cinnamon cookies.
