Method
- 2 oranges
- 24 cloves
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 2 bottles Medium-quality red wine (R40 each)
- Brandy, to taste
Method
Ingredients
Stud each orange with 12 cloves, then halve the oranges. Place into a large, heavy-bottomed pot along with the water, sugar, and cinnamon sticks on a high-heat.
Bring to a boil, stirring continually and boil until it has reduced into a light syrup, if you're worried that it might burn, reduce the heat.
Lower the heat and allow the pan to cool for 5 minutes, then add your wine. If you add the wine straight away some of it might boil, giving you a bitter taste and burning off the alcohol.
Allow the wine to heat through thoroughly, being careful not to boil. Add a tablespoon of brandy at a time until you reach you desired flavour.
Serve in warmed, thick glasses.
